Excursion Committee Co-Chairs

General Description: 

Share your knowledge of tourist destinations in the metro area and utilize your organizational skills by chairing the committee that determines and organizes excursions at AT Vista. You will serve on the A.T. Vista Steering Committee to provide oversight of the excursion program of the conference. As Excursion Co-Chair, you will work with your committee to set a schedule, find escorts, write excursion descriptions, and organize departures, You will have the opportunity to work with others in the metro area and widen your network of fellow hikers. Information about how the Excursions Chairs operated at previous conferences is available  including an attendance report of all excursions. Assistance is available for finding committee members. It is expected that excursions make a slight profit.



Select excursions, establish a schedule and coordinate the operation.  Provide information for publication of the Excursion program

  • Knowledge of places to visit in the metro NY-NJ area
  • Proven track record of organizing trips
Specific Tasks: 
  • While running the Conference
    • Be a member of the Steering Committee
    • Track own hours
    • Present and monitor budget
  • Planning the Conference
    • Read reports from previous conference(s) and talk with previous chair(s)
    • Recruit and assemble committee such that the committee members are knowledgeable about all the regions where the Trail Conference maintains trails
    • Attend AT Vista Steering Committee meetings either in person or phone
    • Organize committee meeting on regular basis initially in person and then either by phone or face to face
      • Make decisions and report back on regular basis
      • Have minutes posted on Google Drive
    • Delegate tasks as appropriate to committee members
    • Prepare and post content on website* and later for publication in AT Journeys and Trail Walker
  • At the conference
    • Assign people to work the excursion desk to answer questions
    • Oversee the excursion departure area
  • After the Conference
    • Write a report
  • Revisit places or go to places you have never visited
  • Meet and work with people who share your passion for travel and the outdoors
  • Learn how to enter content on the AT Vista website
  • Be able to say you worked on a multi-day conference

Time Line: 
  • Spring of year before conference —Preliminary report for June Steering Committee Mtg.
  • Summer of year before conference- Finalize schedule
  • October of year before conference- Material to Communications Chair and Conference Chair for ATN announcement
  • Fall of year before conference - Finalize arrangements
  • Four monts before meeting week - Submit information to Publications for on-site program publication
  • Spring of year of conference - Monitor registration to determine needs for possible adjustments
  • Meeting week-Oversee operation, staff information desk, and stage the excursions each day
  • September of Year of Conference - Final Report due
